This Bellingham Whole Bunch Rousanne is part of the Bellingham The Bernard Series, a tribute to founder Bernard Podlahuk. This visionary man did everything to make South Africa a wine region, also known as 'The Maverick winemaker'. He was never satisfied with a medium level product but always wanted the best. A visionary and innovative man, something that comes forward in this wine. This Rousanne comes from the Agter-Paarl region where the soils are mainly from weathered granite. The vineries here only bring 7 to 9 tons of fruit per season, full of minerals and natural acids. The grapes are handpicked and about 15% matures for 3 months in used French oak casks giving the wine ore complexity.
The result is a fascinating wine with Cape flowers, fynbos and aromas of herbal tea followed by soft kiwi, tropical pineapple and peach. The finish is vivid with subtle spices and hints of honey. A unique white wine that is young and vivid with a fresh character. A good companion of salads, Middle Eastern inspired dishes, , risotto with mushrooms, fish, seasoned chicken from the oven, veal and a variety of cheeses. The wine has an aging potential of about 5 years.
