The Bodega Quinta des Tapias first opened in 2007 in the Monterrei area and is owned by two very ambitious brothers who ‘returned home’. They own 32 ha of vineyards with a capacity of 1.2000.000 liter. This DO Monterrei is made from the Mencia grape from vineyards with a clay soil that are located 400 to 450 meters above sea level. After the fermentation the wine has matured in new French and American 300 liter barrels resulting in a ruby red wine with aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and cherries. The palate is juicy and fresh with a good length and acidity, some creaminess, notes of violets and a mild finish. This wine is best served with pasta salads, carpacci, chicken in a red wine sauce and a variety of cheeses.
