The Compass Box Oak Cross is a 10 years old Highlands blended malt whisky by the independent bottler Compass Box. The main ingredient for this malt is Teaninich but it also contains whisky’s from distilleries in Brora and Carron. All are at least 10 years old and have matured in American oak casks. Together the whisky’s have matured in first fill bourbon barrels followed by a finish (for some casks) in French and American oak casks. It was bottled at 43% ABV.
Nose: delicate and soft with green apple and freshly cut herbs followed by malt, star anise, vanilla and cinnamon
Palate: rounded with vanilla, cloves, sweet malt, citrus fruit, pepper, lilies and something salty with green nuts
Finish: pleasantly long with ripe pears and red fruit followed by returning notes of green almonds, aromatic spices like thyme and malted barley
