Islay
Islay (Schots-Gaelisch: Ìle, IPA: [iːʎə]) is een Schots eiland, het zuidelijkste van de Binnen-Hebriden. Het ligt net ten zuiden van Jura. De belangrijkste plaats is Bowmore, andere plaatsen van betekenis zijn Port Ellen en Port Charlotte. Het inwoneraantal is iets meer dan 3000. De oppervlakte van het eiland is ruim 600 vierkante kilometer. De kustlijn bedraagt ongeveer 200 kilometer.
Het eiland Islay kent 8 whisky distilleries, te weten, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore en Kilchoman. De whisky's van Islay staan bekend om hun ruige rokerige karakter en hoog fenolen (turf) gehalte.
