The Ledaig Sinclair Series Rioja Cask Finish is the first Ledaig in this new series as an ode to founder John Sinclair. In 1797 he was a Celp trader requesting to lease a piece of land called Ledaig. After a year the lease was granted and the distillery was born. This peated Isle of Mull single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks followed by a finish in ex Rioja wine casks.
Nose: notes of Turkish Delight and rose petals balanced with candied fruits and grapes followed by rich leather and a beautifully peppery spice. A hint of chocolate comes through at the back.
Palate: creamy mouthfeel packed full of almonds, barley and sweet malt with notes of peppery Ledaig, which give way to black raspberries, sweet vanilla and cocoa interspersed with cinnamon spice and hints of freshly cut grass.
Finish: lingering smoky finish with red fruit and a sea spray.
