The Ledaig 10 years old is an Islands single malt from the Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull. Ledaig is Gaelic for 'safe port' which refers to the location of the Tobermory distillery, close to the port of Tobermory. Contrary to the malts of Tobermory those of Ledaig contain significantly more peat. This 10 years old release is the newest version with a new bottle and label. For 10 years it has matured in old basements where the weather has absolutely no influence on the spirit. Then it was bottled at 46,3% ABV resulting in a nicely peated and smoky Islands single malt.
Nose: clean with notes of sweet smoke, pleasant Islands aromas, wax, mint, chocolate and some floral notes
Palate: sweet smoky notes with spices like pepper, a salty malt flavour and creamy vanilla aromas
Finish: medium long, warm and spicy with notes of liquorice and cloves, pepper and smoke. A perfect balance between peat, smoke and wood
