Dalwhinnie is Scotland’s highest located distillery and at the same time one of the remotest. Due to it’s location it is also one of the coldest with a yearly average of 10,2 degrees. Therefore their new release (September 2015) is named Winter’s Gold. A referral to the Gold Winter’s as well as the best serving temperature according to Diageo, -18 degrees.
It matured in both European and American oak casks and was bottled at 43% ABV.
Nose: not many aromas when its’frozen but uncooled it brings notes of honey, vanilla, malt and oranges
Palate: frozen it’s not very flavourful but at room temperature there are notes of pepper, oak, sawdust, ginger and cinnamon followed by typical Dalwhinnie aromas like oranges and honey with a hint of plums and alcohol
Finish: medium long with honey, vanilla and oranges
