The Nikka Coffey Malt is a Japanese malt whisky distilled in Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery. Bottled at 45% ABV.
Nose: Lively and tart. Zesty! Fresh and citrusy all the way. An ode to lemon, which the sweet Williams pear barely manages to temper. Fine pepper notes and a hint of balsamic vinegar blend together, with softer vanilla scents finding their way in. Café au lait.
Palate: Like the nose, its vivacity is sustained by citrus aromatics (clementine, orange) which come challenge more enticing notes of coffee, praline, baba au rhum, and vanilla cream. Surprisingly, prune, mirabelle and greengage aromas develop, leaving one with the false impression of an eau-de-vie.
Finish: Extends without batting an eye lid on prune and mirabelle notes. Licorice makes a brief appearance before the fruit takes center stage.
